anukṣamaṇa

Anukṣamaṇa in Sanskrit refers to the virtue of compassion or sympathetic responsiveness toward the suffering of others, closely related to anukampā, embodying both empathy and the desire to help.

In Indian religious traditions:

In summary, anukṣamaṇa is compassion manifested in thought,
feeling, and action: it is understanding another’s pain, sharing their
distress emotionally, and inclining oneself toward alleviating it.
It is a core ethical concept recurring across Hindu and Sanskrit
literature, synonymous in many contexts with anukampā, and
embodies the ideal of empathetic responsiveness integrated
into spiritual practice.
